I was born in California, raised in Connecticut, and educated about design in Georgia. Since arriving in the deep south I have been working on the web. For the first handful of years I was “The Designer,” which is funny to think about now. At that time, design was this thing someone did with computer applications and code. Discovering design management changed everything. I had heard about interaction design at the time, but struggled acquiring experience with its methods or models while keeping up with web technologies. This was about 6 years ago now. I had just completed developing a front-end framework for the course development team and was moving on to building a new video resource. I hired graduate students from design management and we got to work. These students brought what they were learning to work everyday. We implemented new holistic and collaborative practices in our work environment and processes. It wasn’t long before we had a production team, a web application providing the front-end for a suite of backend services to produce an open educational video resource. I have never looked back or wanted to design without collaborators again.
