Flaming Lotus Girls

The Flaming Lotus Girls is a female-driven group of artists who make large-scale collaborative fire and metal art. We began in 2000, as a group of six women and two men who wanted to attain the necessary skills and knowledge to create large sculptural installations. Since that time, we've grown into a majority-female artist group of over 100 members. We create major interactive sculptural works, incorporating innovative designs in welded metal, interactive fire effects and responsive electronics. Our sculptures are made of steel, stainless steel, copper, aluminum, glass and wood - and sizes range from small to the very large, with fire blazing from 2 inches to 150 feet. Our members participate in all aspects of the creative process: design, build, operate, and play. Flaming Lotus projects encourage members with novice to expert-level experience to develop various art-making skills such as design, metal sculpting, casting, operating metal working tools, soldering and electronics work, welding and fire-device construction. We strive to accommodate and incorporate new members, holding weekly meetings in SF. Newcomers are always welcome to attend.
