Fred DuVal is an entrepreneur, civic leader, trusted advisor, and author. He is the founder and President of DuVal and Associates, a firm he established in 2001 to advise clients on government affairs and public policy. His firm works with clients from various industries, including healthcare, energy, infrastructure, and finance. Through his expertise, he helps organizations navigate complex government relations, offering strategies that ensure their objectives are met within the public policy framework. DuVal has made significant contributions to the state of Arizona through his work on the Arizona Board of Regents, where he currently serves his second term. Appointed in 2007, he became the first person in Arizona history to be appointed to the Board by a Democratic and a Republican governor. As Regent, he has focused on improving higher education access and affordability while ensuring greater accountability within the state's university system. He has played a vital role in initiatives to increase the transferability of credits between community colleges and universities, helping students pursue higher education with fewer obstacles. In addition to his work in higher education, DuVal holds various leadership roles in the private sector. He serves as a senior advisor to a major international law firm, Chairman of a publicly traded mining company, and director at a national auto dealership group. His experience spans the public and private sectors, enabling him to tackle various challenges and opportunities, from corporate governance to public policy development. DuVal's career in national politics includes serving as Deputy Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Affairs during the Clinton administration. In this position, he worked closely with governors and other elected officials, overseeing intergovernmental relationships and helping shape important policy decisions on welfare reform, transportation funding, and education. Before his role in the White House, he served as Deputy Chief of Protocol for the United States, managing diplomatic visits from heads of state and coordinating international events. As an author, DuVal has written a collection of opinion pieces and a book focused on Arizona, examining what makes the state a unique and desirable place to live. His writing reflects his passion for public service, education, and clean energy. He also stays involved in his community, serving on the boards of several nonprofit organizations dedicated to social good. Fred DuVal earned a B.A. from Occidental College and a J.D. from Arizona State University College of Law. Born in New Jersey and raised in Tucson, Arizona, he has hiked the Grand Canyon every decade for the last five decades. He is married to a former director at Mayo Clinic, and they have two sons. He continues to contribute to his community through his leadership, public service, and dedication to making a positive impact.
