After a nine-year stint as a journalist I felt it was time for a change so I left the profession at the end of 2012. I subsequently began to coach chess in early 2013 at St Charles College Junior School and later at Bisley Park Primary, which I am thoroughly enjoying. In July 2013 I began to assist with the home-schooling of a then 11-year-old boy who was somewhat behind his peers in terms of overall development. He has since shown considerable progress and I feel that I have been an integral part of that process. In 2014, I continued to coach chess at both Bisley Park and St Charles and taught Biblical Studies and Life Orientation on a part-time basis at the TriDel Study Centre in Ashburton. I have a passion for empowering children by teaching them truth and inspiring them to be the best they can be.
