Thought I was taking a risk buying this movie last week. Nope, this simple movie is oddly re watchable. Leo will be furious when the goat takes his oscar. First I found Lighthouse and now Witch. This weekend is going to be fun. I highly highly highly recommend seeing this movie in a theatre if you can. I drove an hour to see it at one and don't regret it one bit. You know a horror movie is good when the people next to me in the theater start crying What a film exhilarating and shocking Adam Sandler is astonishing. If you're having a hard time understanding this movie, just take off your pants. It all makes sense now. Damn ye! Let Neptune strike ye dead Winslow. HARK The Lighthouse is the quintessential anti-puzzle. It's not a film to be solely taken literally, but to be felt, to be experienced. What we are witnessing is something audacious, a tale that comes spiralling from the depths of Lovecraft and Edgar Allen Poe. On a surface viewing, it does not have much to tell, what seems to be a tale of insanity, when broken down goes deep into the dark fragments of the human psyche. The social isolation, the madness, the insanity, the bitter cruel irony. References to Prometheus and The Fire and Renaissance Paintings. It possesses Bergmans signature contrast and character drama, Bela Tarr's desolate wasteland, Kubrick attention to detail and coldness and Carl Theodor Dreyers Meditative pace. Imagery that carries symbolism and you can unpack it with various ideas. And that's the beauty of The Lighthouse. Not to mention, Willem Dafoes harrowing Neptune's Curse scene. Excellent movie and right behind Above The Rim for favorite basketball movie. Maybe the greatest actor alive... Finally a masterpiece among all the crap that they sell as horror movies. Sound design = A. I saw this movie and I am not big on horror films cause they are all the same but this one was different and was absolutely the best horror film i've seen in years! A MUST SEE. One of the greatest movies I've ever watched, truly. Strongly recommend, each second feels as if you're there, you can feel everything, incredible story! The lines, the acting is superb. If you haven't seen The Lighthouse and you've debated whether you should or not. WATCH. Yeah. it's really that good! Pattinson and Dafoe are. Girls: I hate square dancing!
