Sandra Rowoldt Shell, a professional academic research librarian in African Studies for several decades, has focused her research on the history of the Eastern Cape, South Africa, in particular the history of the amaNgqika. Most recently she has written on a group of Oromo children enslaved in Ethiopia who were sent to Lovedale Institution in that province for safe-keeping. She is the author of Protean Paradox: George Edward Cory (1862-1935): Navigating Life and South African History (Grahamstown, South Africa: Rhodes University, 2017); Captured: The Odyssey of the Oromo child slaves from Ethiopia to Liberation in South Africa (forthcoming, Ohio University Press, Spring 2018) and Indoda Ebisithanda: James Laing and the History of the amaNgqika (provisional title, forthcoming 2020).
