Starting with piano lessons under Edgar and Dorothy Glyde, he discovered a passion for music that would become a lifelong pursuit. This early engagement with music was more than an introductory phase; it was the foundation of his musical identity. As he progressed through schooling, he expanded his musical skills to include trombone performance and composition, nurturing his innate talent and deepening his love for music. His academic path in music led him to Florida State University, where he pursued bachelor’s degrees in Composition and Music Education. This period marked a significant phase of growth and development in his musical career. He studied under accomplished composers such as John Boda and Charles Carter, experiences that profoundly influenced his compositional style and technique. His skills in trombone were honed under William Cramer and John Drew, and conducting studies with James Croft added another dimension to his musical expertise. This comprehensive education at Florida State University provided a robust foundation in various aspects of music, setting the stage for his future career. After completing his undergraduate studies, he continued to deepen his knowledge and expertise in music, earning a Master of Music in Composition and Music Theory and a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Florida. These advanced degrees were not merely academic achievements but a testament to his dedication to music education and composition. The expertise he gained during these years was critical in shaping his professional career, preparing him to become a versatile and respected figure in the music community.
